The Rolex Oyster Perpetual Air King is the only watch a man needs to own. This I was told in no uncertain terms whilst conversing with a friend of mine recently.  He went on to make his case by stating it’s the one watch you can wear anywhere. It’s strong, water-resistant, and understated (especially the older models with black or silver dials) and it is, after all, a Rolex.
I thought about what he said, and as I thought of the watch and its history and design, it made sense. I’m a watch girl, a men’s watch girl. This like most things began as a result of interactions with my grandpa. Grandpa wore one watch my whole life. And I wanted a watch just like it, I do not recall the brand, but it had a large face and was religiously wound every night. He by no means led a sedentary life, in fact, he was a farmer and a tailor. And through it all, one watch took him from digging yam holes and milking cows to cutting and handling the finest materials with laser precision.
Yes, I’m also a Rolex girl. I’ve had a love affair with Rolexes since childhood. Their presence, their heft, and their long life span made them very appealing. Funny enough, hearing my friend wax poetic about his Rolex Oyster Perpetual Air King has rekindled my love for the original “Big O” (my name for the Rolex Oyster line).
He bought his Rolex after much research, he’d thought long and hard about what his first major fashion purchase would be, and he concluded that a perpetually fashionable utilitarian watch that would probably last him forever and still have value and prestige to be passed down to his yet to be conceived son would be a good look, so he went to the Rolex store and made one of the best decisions of his life.
