Designer Miuccia Prada and her namesake label are known for their cerebral approach to fashion. But at its core, Prada is a leather goods company, one that was founded by Miuccia’s grandfather in 1913. While the runway is often awash in their more avante-garde ideas, there’s still a sense of time-honored tradition at the heart of the brand.
Prada has released an update to one of their most popular shoe styles, the driving moccasin, which is also a classic springtime footwear choice. The update includes a variety of colors, and fabrics (including calf suede, perforated leather, and luxed-out crocodile and ostrich skins). Most impressive, however, is the focus on the artisanal. Two hundred steps are involved in crafting each pair—including being made on a last—which may add time to the production process but ultimately creates a more luxurious and sturdy item.
