    Natural Anti-Aging Skin Care

    Anti-aging products rank among the most popular skin care products being made. While natural ingredients are used in these lines, chemical ingredients account for the majority of their composition.  A great solution is safe, natural anti-aging skin care products.

    As time passes our skin care needs change but our basic skin care routine doesn’t. We need to treat our skin well no matter what our age. First, identify your skin type, (dry, normal, oily plus sensitive and mature) then develop and follow a skincare routine based on the requirements of your skin.

    Exfoliation

    This is one of the most important things you can do for your skin.  As we age, our skin’s production of new cells decreases.  Exfoliation helps to remove the dead skin cells on the surface and encourages the skin to create new cells for a more youthful appearance.

    Some natural exfoliants are:

    • coffee grounds(used are just fine):
      They are antibacterial, exfoliating, and stimulating to the skin.
    • sugar(table sugar or coarse):
      Works well with olive oil to provide gentle scrubbing for your homemade exfoliant.
    • almonds(ground up):
      Creates a gentle scrubbing action while providing healthy oils to the skin.
    • oatmeal(use natural unflavored):
      Healing and soothing for the skin, especially sensitive skin. Ground up for finer scrub or left as for a little more action.
    • corn flour or rice powder:
      Another good easily available choice especially for oily skin. Helps absorb skin oils.
    • kosher or sea salt:
      An age-old exfoliator, use a gentle touch to avoid irritating the skin. Coarse salt and coarse sugar work better when combined with a moist ingredient that is sticky. When combined with just a juice no paste is formed.

    Usually, a tablespoon or two of any of the above ingredients is enough. Add a choice of ingredients below a little at a time to create a paste. Water can always be added if the mixture is too thick.

    • lemon, lime, or orange juice:
      These provide an astringent quality to your homemade exfoliant plus the vitamin C provides a boost. Good for oily skin.
    • honey:
      Healing and soothing along with an ability to help skin retain moisture.
    • yogurt, milk, sour cream, etc.:
      Contains lactic acid which helps the skin slough off dead skin cells.
    • olive oil:
      Soothing, moisturizing. Antioxidants help protect the skin from the effects of aging.
    • cucumber(peeled, cut up and pureed):
      Provides cooling and astringent qualities.
    • avocado(mashed):
      Rich in vitamins and antioxidants. Moisturizing. Good for dry skin.
    • apple juice:
      Contains natural fruit acids that help exfoliate.

    Natural Anti-Aging Creams and Lotions

    Once the exfoliation is complete, your skin is ready for moisture to keep new cells hydrated and plumped up. Creams and lotions made from natural ingredients can be an important part of any natural anti-aging skincare routine.

    An amazing array of ingredients like green tea, pomegranate, fruit enzymes, essential oils, seaweed, vitamins, minerals, and more are being used in natural anti-aging skin care products.

    Facial Exercises

    If you practice yoga you may already be familiar with some of the facial poses but there are also other exercise programs developed specifically to tighten sagging skin or smooth wrinkles.

    There seems to be a big difference of opinion on their effectiveness with many claiming excellent safe results and others saying it doesn’t really work and can even help exaggerate wrinkles.

    Acupressure

    Facial Acupressure involves the gentle application of pressure to specific points on the face and holding the pressure for a matter of seconds. This technique, practiced for thousands of years in China, tones and tightens the skin.

    It is a safe simple process that can be completed in just minutes a day but it is important to have a good understanding of how it works. It’s not complicated but the right pressure points must be chosen for effectiveness.

    No matter your age, be informed and choose your skin care products with care.  Natural should not just be a vague word on labels but be truly indicative of the composition of the product contained therein.
